Aphids, Octopi and Affiliated Issues

With nearly three months of silence, it seems that whatever i post here next ought to be monumentally important. Unfortunately, i am fresh out of monumentally important ideas or events, so this is bound to be a disappointment. There's the disclaimer.

In the past three months or so of my existence, a few things have changed. I've become a quasi-permanent resident of Minnesota, a status solidified when i finally felt settled enough to warrant acquiring a bed. This is a false symbol, because i know that if i decide to leave these cities of Twin I have a sister who would happily take this new and fluffy bed, but i held off on making a purchase til i'd decided i wasn't moving to Boston tomorrow. I may still move to Boston, but probably not tomorrow.

In October, I became a member of the Minnesota Bar. They made us recite an oath that no one could hear, so i think my new buddy Jamie might have committed to protect the aphids from the octopi. The audience, proud parents and dragged-along siblings alike found our apparent collective inability to recall the oath most amusing. It seems that this is the downside to being an attorney (aside from the having to be an attorney): the whole world derives satisfaction from real or perceived inadequacies. Fortunately, this trend has subsided, though i imagine that if i was to start signing my name with Esquire or regularly revealing this questionable affiliation, the harassment would be an ongoing problem.

Congrats on passing the bar and being inducted into the "wonderful" world of lawyers! :)

Thanks! You're halfway through 2L year, right? Loving or loathing at this moment? (Clearly there are no other options).

So you are an attorney now!! Congratulations!!!

I'm very proud of you. Do you still dance? I hope so. I also hope you wind up in California. I would love to meet you in person. Berkeley is my alma mater!

Sadly... well-said.

Boston

I'll be doing the law firm thing up in Boston myself next summer (I'm only a 2L now). If you do end up there, let me know. :)

Hey- I totally forgot about LJ. My old laptop died, and I had to reinstall the operating system- and now I have anew lap top. . . .but anyway, I lost all my saved websites, and for some reason forgot about LJ. Strange.

Well, maybe I will conjure up some entries- not sure. It seems a bit strange now, looking back on all of the entries that mention Justin. But I did want to say hi. I got an interview w/ an immigration firm I really want to work at. . . but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

You should come visit Sarah and I- we could totally pull a Buffy-esque weekend . . . well, a girl weekend with lots of banter about dance. I miss my dance friends! I need to start dancing again- or working out- or moving my body in some manner other than walking to and from Barbri classes. ; )

Things are going really well here. Aside from tedious bar review. I cannot believe I'm dating an investment banker- I swear I'm still socialist. Too funny. Needless to say, we have some fun conversations, and he cooks me dinner while I study. Somehow I know you'd love him- something about his being a wonderful person. ; )

I'm totally with you on the dead-end job spectrum. I did legal temp doc review and was about to gouge my eyes out. I hope the rest of my career will be a bit more interesting and challenging. Or else I will start applying for entry-level journalist positions. You can join me. I think it's a good plan.

k- I'm off to bed. Hope you are hanging in there!

There is so much i don't know about this investment banker, in that the only time i've heard him mentioned was when he was standing approximately six feet away from you and you were therefore not especially forthcoming on this conversational topic. We must catch up soon. Preferably when you are more than six feet away from him.

Also, i might know of a forthcoming opening at an immigration law firm in New York for an entry-level attorney. The only trade-off? You might have to be a little evil. Call for details:-)

Love you.
